As a kid, I used to stay up late reading all the time. As soon as the lights went out and the door closed, I’d huddle up under the covers with a flashlight and a book and read until the words blurred and my eyelids drooped. And when I finally slipped off into slumberland, I’d dream of the worlds I’d been reading about, the ones I could see so clearly in my mind I almost believed I’d really been there.
To be able to visit such worlds is a blessing, but to be given the chance to create such a world and share it with others? That is a gift that I hardly dared dream of at the time—but one which I have since come to believe every child deserves.
